Xi'an's total import and export volume reached 256.58 billion yuan ($37.83 billion) from January to April, a year-on-year increase of 74.3 percent, 59.4 percentage points higher than the national average.

Exports stood at 199.36 billion yuan, up 94.2 percent, while imports stood at 57.22 billion yuan, up 28.6 percent. The trade surplus hit 142.14 billion yuan.

Exports of electromechanical products doubled, accounting for 94.5 percent of the total export volume, further cementing the leading position of technology-intensive products.

Meanwhile, exports of new energy vehicles, lithium batteries, and photovoltaic products also saw rapid growth. Products manufactured in Xi'an have gained stronger competitiveness in the global green and low-carbon sector.

A total of 154 enterprises took part in 68 overseas exhibitions. Xi'an organized 102 enterprises to attend the 139th Canton Fair, securing intended orders worth 3.2 billion yuan.

The city's trade volume with five major trading partners including South Korea posted a growth of over 30 percent. Its imports and exports with countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) rose 83.4 percent year-on-year.

Xi'an has launched a special campaign to facilitate cross-border trade. Thanks to the integrated port and zone supervision model for exported goods, the cargo transit time has been cut from over two days to less than two hours.

A representative of Xi'an municipal bureau of commerce said the bureau has further optimized the organization and management of exhibition delegations and scaled up policy support since the start of this year.

It has improved comprehensive services covering enterprise participation in exhibitions and project matchmaking, supporting local enterprises to go global and helping more premium products made in Xi'an reach markets worldwide.
